Daystar Shemuel Shua Peters, better known professionally as Tory Lanez, is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer.
Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, rose to prominence following the release of his mixtape Conflicts of My Soul: The 416 Story in August 2013.
Tory Lanez signed with record producer Benny Blanco's Mad Love Records via Interscope Records in 2015.
Lanez's debut studio album, I Told You (2016), featured the singles "Say It" and "Luv," which charted at number 23 and 19, respectively, on the Billboard Hot 100. Lanez's second and third studio albums, Memories Don't Die and Love Me Now? were released in 2018.
Chixtape 5 (2019), his fourth studio album, debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200. In 2020, he released Daystar, his fifth studio album, which debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200 and included controversial responses to allegations that he had shot fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion earlier that year.
Lanez has received and been nominated for numerous awards and accolades. He was nominated for a Grammy Award for his song "LUV," as well as four Juno Awards.
Lanez hosted "Quarantine Radio" on his Instagram Live during the quarantine lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lanez released the single "Temperature Rising" on May 14, 2020, through his own One Umbrella imprint, marking his first release as an independent artist following his departure from Interscope.
Lanez released three singles on July 10: "Simple Things" with DJDS and Rema, "Staccato," and "392" with his label signee VV$ Ken. The last two tracks were released as part of an EP titled VVS Capsule.
Lanez will surprise fans with the release of his fifth album, Daystar, on September 25, 2020, his first project since leaving Interscope earlier this year. In several songs on the album, he defends himself against claims that he shot rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
