Music Releases You Probably Didn’t Hear In May 2022

On at about 08:19:00 AM, Music Releases You Probably Didn’t Hear In May 2022 was updated.

Every day, Spotify receives an estimated 60,000 new songs.

With so much music to choose from, it's easy to overlook some of the best. Vibe staff writer DeMicia Inman brings you ICYMI, a monthly roundup of music you might have missed.

1. SiR - “Satisfaction”

"Satisfaction," SiR's most recent release, tells the whole story. As depicted in the R&B ballad of confession, he shows that a relationship isn't as simple as contentment. During a standout performance at the 2022 Sol Blume Festival, the Top Dawg Entertainment representative teased the track.

'Satisfaction' is about wishing for something you don't have. As a human being, I've found myself in many situations where someone else wants me to be someone or something I'm not. Statement: "This is the official introduction to my next chapter, where things are much more complicated than they appear."

2. Col3trane - 'Lush Life'

This is Col3trane's first full-length album, Lush Life, and it's a rollercoaster ride of life and love through his experiences and wisdom. The London-born singer brings in Lucky Daye, Flatbush Zombies, and Erick The Architect on the album's 12 tracks.

Lush Life tells the story of loving until something hurts. Love can make you feel invincible, like a beautiful flower in full bloom, and it can feel like pure ecstasy. Even the brightest lights cast a dark shadow, and flowers wilt and die if they are not cared for and nurtured properly.. In a press release, he said, "They end up ugly, a broken image of what they once were."

3. Alex Vaughn - 'Voice Notes'

After opening three sold-out Summer Walker shows, R&B newcomer Alex Vaughn released her first EP, Voice Notes, which introduced her sound and style to a wider audience. Emotional documentation and boundary setting in relationships are explored in the three tracks presented by the PG County native.

This album is about being brave and unapologetically honest about the feelings and experiences that define who I am. In a press release, Alex Vaughn said, "My voice notes will always be my first soundboard and favorite diary."

4. Ogi - 'Monologues'

Monologues, Ogi's first full-length album, features six songs. From romance and love to family relationships and life experiences, she presents herself as an accomplished songwriter and singer. "Let Me Go," "I Got It," and "Bitter" are some of the album's highlights.

Bitter's origins can be traced back to one of my worst dates in college. "Man, this is how it had to be," I thought to myself. The date went exactly as planned, of course.' The demo started with a whimsical baseline, and I'm guessing that's now in the final song. In an interview with Rated RNB, she said, "I think that was one of the first demos I ever made."

5. Payroll Giovanni - ‘Back 2 the Ba$ics’

Detroit rapper Payroll Giovanni enlisted his two children as executive producers for Back 2 The Ba$ics. Described as a project for “the Day ones” by Payroll Giovanni on Twitter, the rapper stays true to his hustle mentality. He produced all twelve songs and handles every track solo. Back 2 The Ba$ics is Payroll Giovanni’s first album of 2022, following 2021’s Giovanni’s Way.

6. thuy - 'I Hope U See This (Deluxe)'

The deluxe edition of I hope u see this, the debut EP from up-and-coming R&B singer thuy, has been released. The Vietnamese artist continues to sing her own, personal truths on five new tracks. Love, family, femininity, and self-empowerment are some of the recurring themes in her songs. Songs like "Inhibitions" with P. Lo and the "In My Bag" remix with Destiny Rogers are highlights of this album.

A new chapter in thuy's life begins with the closing of doors on the past, which he explained to 360 Magazine as a central theme of the deluxe project.

7. Reuben Vincent – “Butterfly Doors”

Charlotte rapper Reuben Vincent released the smooth “Butterfly Doors” as his first track under Roc Nation. The 21-year-old rapper issued the song at the end of April and proves Reuben Vincent’s skill and potential. With an effortless flow and wordplay, the song puts his slick rhymes over a groovy bassline and horns. The first-generation-born rapper with Liberian immigrant parents teased an upcoming project on social media.

“A lot of time, thought, and love was put into this next project….& The Summer is slowly approaching. It’s almost time, Trust me,” he wrote.

8. Arin Ray - “Gold”

This week, R&B singer Arin Ray released the single "Gold" ahead of his upcoming second album Hello Poison. "The Mood," a collaboration with D. Smoke, was previously released by the Cincinnati native.

It's a "lush romantic ode" to someone who not only exceeds his expectations but "crushes" them, according to a press release.

9. Westside Boogie - "Stuck"

"Stuck," the latest single from Westside Boogie's upcoming sophomore album More Black Superheroes, has been released. The California rapper's introspective lyrics and reflective tone are perfectly complemented by the G-funk-inspired synths on this track. On "Stuck," Westside Boogie tries to find a middle ground between the past and the future.

10. Mother Nature - “Don’t Worry”

Mother Nature, a Chicago hip-hop duo, has released the first single from their upcoming EP Nature's World, "Don't Worry," featuring Renzell. The EP is due out on June 10th. According to a press release, the song is a "anthem to keep our bodies moving and our minds free, knowing that we are all divinely protected and provided for by Nature herself" and is a true representation of Chicago music's new and old waves.
