In 1986, Maradona was instrumental in bringing Argentina to their second World Cup victory, captaining the squad that won under Carlos Bilardo's stewardship over West Germany in the final.
Over the course of the competition, he scored five goals to finish second behind Gary Lineker of England in the top scorer rankings, with the pair meeting in a quarter-final match that entered the annals as perhaps the most famous, and undoubtedly most controversial, in the 90-year history of the World Cup. The No.10 Argentina scored twice in a 2-1 win to take down England, the first goal scored with his famed 'Hand of Heaven' and the second after dribbling in what will then be considered the 'Goal of the Century' past many rivals. Also, four years later, Maradona helped his nation reach a second consecutive World Cup final, only to lose to West Germany.
