Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has established the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, EDSIEC, led by Justice James Oyomire (retd), to conduct local government council elections across the state. The governor instructed the commission to be impartial in the conduct of the council elections and to guarantee that the electoral process is free, fair, and transparent at the swearing-in event in Benin City yesterday. Mrs. Gladys Idahor, Mr. Uduafi Gabriel, Mr. Felix Ebhota, Mr. Okekuoyen Ehiedu, Mr. Michael Emmanuel, and Mr. Vincent Aimienota are members of the committee.
"This newly created commission has the duty of midwifeing a new democratic dispensation at the councils so that we may expand democracy's benefits and bring government closer to our people" - he added
"We, as government, are extremely sensitive to the role of the electoral empire because we are beneficiaries of a free and fair process, and having benefitted from a free process, we are totally dedicated to ensuring that others have the same privileges and benefits that brought us to office."
"With the modifications in the state's electoral process, we aim to have a council election that the majority of our people will see as credible and acceptable." As a government, we will work with you to ensure that you fulfill your mandate."
