NPA To Eliminate Systematic Corruption At Ports
The Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, has stated that it intends to strengthen its Standard Operating Procedure, SOP, in order to eliminate corruption and other vices at the country's seaports. Mr. Mohammed Bello Koko, Managing Director of the NPA, said during a meeting with officials of the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network, MACN, that the Authority's implementation of the SOP as stipulated in the Nigerian Port Process Manual (NPPM), a project it funded, will also improve operational excellence and service delivery at all Nigerian seaports and terminals.
Koko noted that the NPA's management appreciates the network's constructive role in collaborating with major sister agencies and groups to create a more welcoming climate for doing business in the nation's maritime industry. He also praised the group for promoting the benefits of commercial integrity and increasing awareness about the damaging impact of corruption on the country's image and worldwide standing.
Soji Apampa, the MACN's leader, explained that the purpose of their visit is to inform the Authority about the accomplishments made in collaboration with other key stakeholders to instill zero tolerance for corruption in the port and remove opaqueness in port operations in accordance with international best practices.
