Nina Nesbitt's single 'Stay Out,' which was released in April 2013, reached its highest position on the UK Singles Chart at number 21. Nina Nesbitt's first extended play, titled The Apple Tree, was released in April of 2012 and quickly became a great hit after receiving praise from BBC Radio 1 and taking the top place on the singer-songwriter list on iTunes. On July 23, 2013, an extended play (EP) and its lead track, 'The Way in the World,' were released as a follow-up to the song 'Stay Out.'

Before the artist Ed Sheeran was supposed to play on a radio broadcast in Edinburgh, Nesbitt had the opportunity to speak with him. She approached him with a question about how aspiring singer-songwriters might improve their craft, and then she performed a song for him on the guitar. In response, he offered her to accompany him on his tour of Europe. As a result of the popularity of her rendition of 'Stay Awake,' Nina Nesbitt received an invitation to perform on Example's tour. Additionally, she appears in the music video for Ed Sheeran's song 'Drunk.'
