After the release of his single "Ross Capicchioni" in 2015, Joyner Lucas gained global attention and critical acclaim. 508-507-2209, his fourth mixtape and first on a big label, was released in June 2017.

Joyner Lucas released his single "I'm Not Racist" on November 28, 2017, and it soon went viral, bringing him further popular fame. At the 61st Grammy Awards, the video was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Music Video. Lucas was signed to Atlantic Records for a short time before announcing his exit in December 2018.

Lucas and his manager, Dhruv Joshi, co-founded the music technology platform Tully in 2015. Tully was created to allow musicians to play, write, and record all on the same screen. It later added administration and distribution tools to its offerings. Tully has a strategic collaboration with Symphonic Distribution and shares corporate office space in New York City with Sony Music.

Since 2016, Lucas has become recognized for remixing major hip hop tracks such as Lil Pump's "Gucci Gang," 21 Savage's "Bank Account," Kendrick Lamar's "DNA," and many others. He announced his debut studio album ADHD, which would be released on March 27, 2020, in October 2018.

Lucas announced the release date of his debut EP, Evolution, on August 17, 2020. On October 23, 2020, it was released. Two songs, "Fall Slowly" featuring Ashanti and "Snitch," preceded it.
