On at about 18:51:47 PM, I was given N100m to support Obasanjo's agenda for his third term - Gbajabiamila was updated.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has stated that he was offered N100 million to support former President Olusegun Obasanjo's third term agenda.
He did, however, say that one of his favorite moments as a legislator was when the agenda was killed by the National Assembly.
This was stated by Gbajabiamila in a book titled 'Mr. Speaker: The Legislative Life, Service, and Resilience of Femi Gbajabiamila,' which was released in Abuja to commemorate his 60th birthday.
"My best moment as a legislator was the death of Third Term; the day it was pronounced dead because we had sleepless nights," he said. We were meeting; we found a hidden location in Asokoro. We would start our meetings at 11 p.m. and leave at 4 a.m. I'm not sure how many of us there were. It was a risk to one's life.
"So the day it was declared dead was a happy and relieving day for me." I was liberated. Look, at the time, one of the major proponents of Third Term offered me an inducement. I would not mention his name at this time, but he is a major player in this country.
"While they were offering N50 million to members, I was offered N100 million at the time, and you know what N100 million was, which I, of course, turned down." I say this to help you understand the stress; financial, mental, and physical stress.
"In the House, we had no other job except Third Term, constitutional amendment." For me, as noble as that work was, the best time was when it died, not during the Third Term, but on the floor."
