Brockhampton is a self-described "boy band," so-called in an effort to redefine the word. Founded in 2010, the band is fronted by Kevin Abstract and established largely through online music discussion site KanyeToThe.
In 2016, the band released their debut mixtape, All-American Trash. Saturation, their first studio album, was released on June 9, 2017, followed by Saturation II on August 25, and Saturation III on December 15.
Brockhampton announced on March 30, 2018, that they had secured a record contract with RCA Records. Iridescence, their fourth album, was released on September 21, 2018 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album list. The album is also the first installment of their second trilogy, "The Best Years of Our Lives."
Brockhampton officially announced their fifth album, Ginger, on July 18, 2019, with an August release date. On July 31, they released the album's first song, "I Been Born Again," accompanied with a music video.
Throughout August, three additional songs with accompanying music videos were released, leading up to Ginger's release on August 23, 2019.
Brockhampton's sixth studio album, Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine, was released on April 9, 2021. Following their engagement at the Coachella Festival in April 2022, the trio declared an extended break in January 2022.
