The new single "Phonograph" is the work of English musician and producer Stephen James Wilkinson, better known as Bibio.
Phonograph's music by English entertainer — BibioSong titled "Phonograph" can be found on Bibio's highly anticipated tenth studio album, simply labeled "BIB10."
Bibio, the singer, revealed the release of "BIB10" on September 8 of the next year, 2022. When asked to characterize the record, the singer said it was "a party album" and "an homage to guitar in a totally unusual way."
While attending Middlesex University in London from 1999 to 2003, Bibio majored in "sonic arts" and discovered his love for experimental music.
One of Bibio's early recordings, "Cantaloup Carousel," was made in 1999 in his dorm room at the university while he was a student; it is a multi-tracked guitar work in the style of Steve Reich's Electric Counterpoint.
At the time, Bibio recorded with a "plastic" microphone, cheap sampler, cassette deck, and a portable MiniDisc recorder.
In 2000, after being inspired by music released on Warp Records, he began dabbling with SuperCollider, a programming language for virtual synthesizers, which he had learned about in his college courses.
Fingerpicking and alternate guitar tunings "opened up new possibilities of melodic expression and serendipity" and "made playing guitar feel fresh and thrilling again" for Bibio after he discovered Nick Drake and The Incredible String Band in 2001.
Bibio says his characteristic lo-fi sound was inspired by those "happy days of discovery" in college.
Bibio's first album, fi, was published in February 2005 and was based on his college recordings from 1999 to 2003.
He released his second album, "Hand Cranked," in March of 2006, and it was stylistically consistent with his first.
Vignetting the Compost, Bibio's third studio album, was released in February 2009 and continued his trademark sound while moving towards a more conventional folk song style.
Ribbons, Bibio's ninth studio album, was released on April 12, 2019.
Bibio, who was born on December 4th, 1978, has a distinct analog lo-fi sound and has worked in a wide variety of musical styles, from folktronica and ambient to instrumental hip hop, indie pop, electronica, soul, funk, and alternative R&B.
Bibio has recorded songs on both Warp Records and Mush Records.
