On at about 11:09:38 AM, Alvvays - Pomeranian Spinster was updated.
The new single "Pomeranian Spinster" by Canadian indie pop band Alvvays is taken from their upcoming third studio album, "Blue Rev."
The album features fourteen (14) tracks and was released on October 7, 2022 by Polyvinyl and Transgressive.
On July 6, 2022, the band Blue Rev and their first song "Pharmacist" were officially unveiled. On August 10, 2022, the second single, titled "Easy On Your Own?," was published.
Two songs, "Belinda Says" and "Very Online Guy," were published together as a single on September 22, 2022.
In "Pharmacist," the band strikes a nice mix between their usual indie-pop sound and noticeable shoegaze elements like distorted guitar and Molly Rankin's "dreamy" vocals.
Pitchfork's Quinn Moreland likened it to Loveless by My Bloody Valentine. Alvvays composed each and every one of the songs.
In 2011, Molly Rankin (vocals/guitar), Kerri MacLellan (keyboards), Alec O'Hanley (guitars), Abbey Blackwell (bass), and Sheridan Riley formed the band (drums).
The 2014 self-titled album by Alvvays was the most popular record at universities across the United States. The year 2015 marked the beginning of Alvvays' work on their second studio album.
Over the course of 2014 and 2015, the band debuted a number of brand new original songs, including "Your Type" (often used as the show's opener), "New Haircut" (renamed "Saved By A Waif"), and "Hey." 2016 saw the addition of "Not My Baby" and "Dreams" to their list of concert staples.
After incorporating new material like "Plimsoll Punks" into live performances in the spring of 2017, Alvvays shared a preview clip of "In Undertow," a track from their upcoming second album, Antisocialites.
Songs like "Already Gone," "Forget About Life," "In Undertow," "Lollipop (Ode to Jim)," and "Saved by a Waif" were written specifically for the album and not played live before. On September 8, 2017, the album was released to the public.
In October of 2017, a North American and European tour was announced in support of the album. Phil MacIsaac left the music industry to pursue a career in graphic design in 2016, and Sheridan Ripley took his place. In September of 2017, it was revealed that there will be a second UK tour in the spring of 2018.
A male fan in the audience at Molly Rankin's show in Antwerp on September 16, 2017, jumped up and tried to kiss her on stage. Trix director Ken Veerman issued a public apology on his Facebook page.
Antisocialites was shortlisted for the 2018 Polaris Music Prize and the band's 2018 single "Dreams Tonite" was nominated for a SOCAN Songwriting Prize.
The 2018 Juno Awards saw Alvvays nominated for Group of the Year and Antisocialites take home the award for Alternative Album of the Year.
The music community and media have categorized Alvvays' sound as jangle pop. Rankin claims that the band doesn't aim for a particular musical style but rather places a premium on catchy melodies.
Rankin said she and Tracyanne Campbell, the band's vocalist, shared a "fondness for the pathetic perspective," drawing comparisons to Camera Obscura.
Rankin was influenced by Magnetic Fields' lead singer and songwriter Stephin Merritt, who writes lyrics that are sincere but not heavy.
The Magnetic Fields, Teenage Fanclub, Dolly Mixture, the Smiths, Celine Dion, Pavement, the Primitives, and Oasis are just a few of Rankin's favorite bands and musical influences.
While the band as a whole does not have an obviously Celtic sound, Rankin has said that her upbringing in a household filled with Celtic music has had an impact on her singing and songwriting.
