In the final match, the Promise Keepers defeated Lobi Stars with a score of 2-1. The title allowed the team to play in the 2016 CAF Confederations Cup and for the first time, the club was talked about outside Nigeria.
Akwa United went on to lift the FA Cup once again in 2017, beating Niger Tornadoes 5-4 on penalties in Lagos in what was their second national trophy in three years.
